Post-Workout Skinny Bagel Sandwich

So after you work out, if you're like me, all you want to do is dig into some mac and cheese. But you resist because your mind goes back to those two hours you just spent at the gym promising yourself you would never eat again. Well today I came up with a yummy recipe that satisfied my hunger and still made me feel healthy :)

Open Faced Skinny Bagel Sandwich

  • 1 half (side) of a whole wheat bagel thin - my fav brand is above, any grocery store has them for cheap
  • 2 Tbs Whipped Cream Cheese
  • Sliced Turkey or Ham (4-6 pieces)
  • Tomato
  • Cucumber

I like my bagels toasted so once the bagel is toasted (or not), smear some cream cheese on top. Next add about four slices of turkey and then place two or three slices of tomato and cucumber on top. Super simple!
The best part is...it's under 200 calories!! It's 184 calories to be exact :)

I think it tastes good, hope you do! You can also add lettuce or sprouts, feel free to experiment.

Life lessons

This past week has been a load of life experience. Here are some simple things I'm happy to say I've learned.

"Don't get a job in which you have no interest in"
For example, if you would never take Tae Kwon Do...DON'T work at a Tae Kwon Do place. Or if you are scared of animals, DON'T work at a pet store...get the picture??

 Next, lesson...

"Trust your gut"

I believe this is one of the hardest things to learn but once you realize your gut has always been yelling out for your attention, you'll find it easier to listen to.
NOTE: If you wonder if your gut is trying to tell you something, but you push the feeling off as just worrying...chances could be, it was really your gut trying to tell you something.

haha...

I'm happy for you if you already knew these things, but for those of you who didn't, hope this helped! Either way I'm just proud to say and share that I'm learning new life things  :)

Friends

"A true friend is someone who shows up by your side when you least expect it, when you need it the most and without being asked"

I have five of these true friends, three in particular who made me realize this. I've discovered that it doesn't matter how much you see each other or how much you text or whether or not you were invited to a party...because true friendship is shown during those moments when you are hurting and think you are all alone but receive a loving call or email when you least expected it. I never knew there were people out there who could care about me more than I care about myself. It meant a lot to know that although I lost one friendship, I still had these beautiful friendships to support me and help me move forward. Thank you to those girls, even though your gestures may have seemed small, they meant the world to me ♥

Last few days in CHI

So I'm home now, but I felt like I needed to finish telling my journey! So a couple days after the blizzard my parents and I drove down to Ohio to visit my parents other friends! The roads were horrible once we reached Indiana, I didn't like Indiana that much. Even though we just drove through it, it was flat and boring. Ohio is a lot like Utah, same stores, looks the same except the mountains are hills.

My parent's friend have a son and he goes to Miami University (yes, in Ohio) so he took me to a fraternity social. He's a Phi Delta Theta and there were a bunch of Kappa girls there haha. I asked my fellow kappa friend for some kind of kappa code so I could fit in lol. Their parties are a lot like the greek row parties at the University of Utah, except they have houses aside from their fraternity houses. They call them annexes and that is where they hold socials and parties, interesting! Near campus was a few bars, one of which they rented out, it wasn't too exciting but it was fun to be at a different university.

I must say, everyone told me the Pi Phis are the coolest and hottest girls at their university too :) so that was exciting to hear! Miami University is somewhat in the middle of nowhere and it has it's own college town, much different than the University of Utah. We were only in Ohio for a day but I would like to think my experience in the mid-west broadened my horizons! I will always love Utah, but it's fun to see the cultures outside of our little bubble :)

Chicago Snow Day

So the blizzard really did come and it was pretty cool! Now I understand the difference between a blizzard and a snow storm. A blizzard is when it is snowing while winds are blowing 60mph, I like to call it flying ice. There were moments when I thought the house was going to blow away! Luckily we didn't have to go anywhere and we were able to stay warm and cozy inside!

After a while things got boring because the internet went out as well as the cable...but fortunately an adventure arose! A guy in a truck got stuck right in front of our house so we went out to help him and boy was he thankful for us! We snowplowed the driveway so he could park his truck there for the night and I was only out there for 10 or 15 minutes and my pants were frozen when I got inside! The back of my legs felt like icicles for the rest of the night!
The beginning of the storm, notice the lower bench

A few hours later....
The wind blew the snow against the windows everywhere!
Today we woke up to a winter wonderland! The sun was shining but the roads were crazy! In Chicago it rarely snows, so these two feet of snow were considered a state of emergency (I can hear the Utahns laughing right now). All of the stores were closed, there were no cars downtown, this historic blizzard sure left it's mark! And now I totally believe in karma because we got stuck ourselves driving this morning and people immediately pulled over to help us :)
